Flower Island Mainau

As is well known, many roads lead not only to the Italian capital, but also to Mainau, the flower island in Lake Constance that is open all year round. The island of Mainau is easy to reach via the mainland and by boat.

A large car park offers plenty of chargeable parking spaces (free for coaches, by the way).

A particularly nice way to visit the Mainau is by boat. The Lake Constance fleet offers numerous, regular boat connections to Mainau Island during the season.

World Cultural Heritage Reichenau Monastery Island

In addition to its dreamlike location in Lake Constance and its nationally renowned vegetable cultivation, the monastery island of Reichenau is directly linked to events, ideas, artistic and literary works of exceptional, universal significance.

Reichenau played an outstanding and important role in the politics and culture of the Carolingian period. Reichenau abbots were councillors and officials at the imperial court, educators of princes, diplomats and envoys; finally, such important bishoprics as Pavia and St. Denis were also occupied by Reichenau monks. The first European horticultural treatise (“Hortulus”) was written on Reichenau, as was an ideal plan of a Benedictine monastery, the so-called St. Gallen monastery plan, around 830.
